This 1964 Porsche 356C is a desirable Reutter-bodied coupe that was built on October 27, 1964.  Sold to it’s first owner by Stan Carlsen Porsche Audi in San Francisco, California.  It was sold to it’s second Oregon owner in 1983.  It has received a refinish in it’s original Slate Grey and interior restoration in red leatherette with cloth inserts.  It’s original numbers-matching 1.6L flat-four has just 25k miles on it’s rebuild and is paired with it’s original numbers-matching four-speed type 741 transaxle. Features include dual Solex carburetors and 15″ chrome wheels with chrome hubcaps. Recent services include new tires, brake master cylinder, brake hoses, brake fluid flush, new spark plugs and wires, valve adjustment, rebuilt distributor, engine timing adjustment and oil change. This 356C is offered with original owner’s manual, detailed service log book, a luggage rack, copy of factory Kardex, and a clean Arizona title.

Paint and Body

The car was delivered new in Slate Grey (6401).  Exterior details include body-color bumpers with chrome bumperettes, a driver’s side mirror, and exhaust outlets integrated into the rear overriders. The paintwork and exterior trim are shown up close in the photo gallery below.  The trunk lid, doors and decklid are all numbers matching original panels.

Interior

The interior is upholstered in red leatherette with red carpets and the front seats have red cloth inserts. Red square-weave carpeting covers the floors along with black rubber mat and separate red floor mats.  Equipment includes fold-down rear seats, a locking glove box, and lap belts.  A wood rimmed three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of green-letter VDO instrumentation that includes a 7k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, a combination gauge, and an analog clock. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 112k miles.

Wheels and Brakes

The original 1964 date coded chrome-finished 15″ ventilated chrome wheels measure 4.5″ in width. They wear chrome Porsche-crest hubcaps and are mounted with newly installed Vredestein Sprint Classic 165HR15 tires with 2023 date codes.  The car is equipped with Koni shocks, and braking is handled by four-wheel discs.  Rear brake caliper was serviced and brake fluid flush was completed in March 2023.  The spare chrome wheel is mounted in the front trunk.

Mechanicals

The numbers matching 1.6-liter type 616/15 flat-four (731054) is equipped with dual Solex carburetors and received a rebuild approximately 25k miles ago.  The engine features 86mm NPR forged pistons and cylinders for a displacement of 1,720cc, and the car retains it’s original 6-volt electrical system. Recent work performed in 2024 included an engine oil service, valve adjustment and leak down test. Additional work performed in 2023 included replacing brake fluid reservoir and supply hose, brake fluid flush, and cleaning and tuning the carburetors. Work performed in 2019 included engine oil service, rebuilding generator, new fuel petcock, new electric fuel pump and fuel hoses, restored distributor, and $2250 blueprinted restoration of carburetors.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through the original type 741 four-speed manual transaxle.  The syncros were examined, new bearings were installed and the ring and pinion were realigned at 105k miles.  Oil service was completed in 2023.
