3.0L 1968 Porsche 912 Coupe 5-Speed

This 1968 Porsche 912 coupe was acquired in California by the prior owner in 2003 and was fitted then with a rebuilt 3.0L 911SC engine. The car is finished in it’s original color combination of Light Ivory over black and is powered by a 3.0-liter flat-six paired with a 901 five-speed manual transaxle. Additional equipment includes air conditioning,  15″ x 6″ deep Fuchs wheels with hearts, H4 headlights, Recaro seats, a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, power door locks, and a Porsche Classic stereo system. Recent service included installing PMO carburetors, adjusting the valves, and replacing the fuel lines, ignition coil, altitude sensor, and valve cover gaskets. This 912 is now offered with service records and a clean title.

Paint and Body

A professional repaint in the original Light Ivory (6804) color was completed in early 2022. Equipment includes H4 headlights, pop-out rear vent windows, and 68 only side reflectors.

Interior

The interior upgrades include a Momo Prototipo steering wheel, excellent Recaro seats, replacement black carpeting, a Porsche Classic Communication Management (PCCM) system, and aftermarket speakers.  The original central tachometer, 120-mph speedometer, combination gauge and analog clock are installed.  The five-digit odometer shows 90k miles, approximately 7k-10k of which were added by the prior owner, since his purchase in 2003.  An R134A AC system is installed and blows cold with a professional recharge in 2018.  A new ignition switch was also installed at that time.

Wheels and Brakes

Rare 15″ x 6″ deep Fuchs wheels wear Goodyear Assurance All Season radials.  Stock brake calipers and steel braided brake hoses are installed.  A Smart Racing front sway bar is installed.  The front wheel bearings were repacked and adjusted, and a wheel alignment was completed at 88k miles.

Mechanicals

The original 1.6-liter flat-four was first replaced with a rebuilt 911SC 3.0-liter flat-six approximately 7,000 to 10,000 miles ago, and PMO carburetors were installed by Porsche in May 2018.  Additional service at that time included distributor rebuild, spark plugs, adjusted timing and dwell, oil and filter, valve adjustment, fuel level sender and CDI ignition coil.  The engine number stamping *6407105* indicates that the engine was originally built for a 1980 Porsche 911SC.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 901 five-speed manual transaxle.  An excellent short shift kit is installed.  Additional photos of the underside are provided in the gallery.

Service Documentation

Service documentation dated May, 2018 documents the following:  Installed PMO carburetors, recharged A/C, replaced fuel level sender, new spark plugs, new ignition switch, oil and filter service, valve adjustment, new backup light switch, wheel alignment, rebuilt Bosch distributor, new ignition coil.
