1974 Triumph TR6 Mallard Blue

This 1974 Triumph TR6 was sold new at Schettler Williams in Salt Lake City, Utah and has been driven just 46k miles over the ensuing 46 years. Following the original owner’s passing, the car was purchased in 1993 by a dentist in Dublin, California, in 2000 by a San Francisco attorney and to a second San Francisco attorney in late 2001 who owned it until our recent acquisition. Finished in Mallard Blue over tan vinyl, the car now shows just 46k miles and retains its numbers-matching 2.5L inline-six engine. Additional equipment includes a four-speed manual gearbox, rear luggage rack, front disc brakes, 15″ wheels, reclining bucket seats with headrests, and an AM/FM radio. Refurbishment work in 2018 included rebuilding of the original Stromberg carburetors, overhauling the brakes, replacing the clutch slave cylinder, replacing the fuel pump, replacing fuel and vacuum hoses, installing new spark plugs, performing a tune-up, and more. This TR6 is now offered  with its original driver’s handbook, original passport to service book, service records back to 1974, a spare wheel and jack, both half and full tonneau covers, and a clean California title.

The exterior is finished in Mallard Blue with original black windshield frame and black rear panel.  Chrome bumpers are fitted with original black overriders and a correct chrome luggage rack is installed.  Paint meter inspection indicates a majority of original paint.

The reclining bucket seats feature headrests and are upholstered in tan vinyl with perforated inserts. Amenities include a locking glovebox, original AM/FM radio, and original pile carpeting.  The dashboard fascia is covered in a walnut veneer, and Smiths instrumentation includes fully functional 140-mph speedometer, 7k-rpm tachometer, coolant temperature gauge, fuel level indicator, oil pressure gauge, and voltmeter. The five-digit odometer shows just over 45,844 miles.

Steel 15″ wheels wear trim rings and 205/75 sized radial tires.  Images of Triplex glass etchings can be seen in the gallery below along with photos of the black convertible top in its raised position. Braking is provided by discs up front and drums out back. Service in 2018 included rebuilding the brake calipers, installing new brake hoses all around, machining the rear brake drums, as well as replacing the rear wheel cylinders and shoes.

The 2.5-liter OHV straight-six is equipped with dual Zenith Stromberg CD-2 side-draft carburetors.  The original engine block (stamping CF16782UE) matches the engine number indicated in the original Passport To Service book.  Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox and a 3.7:1 rear end. A new clutch slave cylinder was installed in 2018, and the clutch system was bled and tested at that time. Suspension is independent all around, and the underside displays it’s original undercoating.

Original driver’s manual is included and shown in the gallery.  The original Passport To Service book documents service back to 1974.  Additional service records document service through 2018.
