RoW 1978 Porsche 911SC Coupe

This RoW 1978 Porsche 911SC coupe is a black-on-black example powered by it’s original 3.0-liter flat-six paired with it’s original five-speed manual transaxle. Front seats are original black leatherette with rare pinstripe inserts. Features include 16″ Fuchs wheels, a sunroof, and an aftermarket stereo system.  Estimated two owners with the odometer showing approximately 126k miles.  Shipped to California in the mid 1980’s and then shipped to Wisconsin in 2000.  A full engine rebuild was completed in November 2004 at 121k miles and a full bare metal repaint was completed in 2022.  Owners manual and toolkit are present and included.  This 911SC now shows 126k miles and includes service records, an owner’s manual, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Wisconsin title.

Paint and Body

For the 1978 model year, the 911SC featured headlamp rings and side mirrors painted in the exterior color, as well as black anodized door handles.  The body was recently stripped and professionally repainted in it’s original black (L700) in November 2022.  Note that black was a rare color for the 1978 911SC.  All body panels are straight with no dents.  There is no evidence of accident or rust repairs.  All opening panel gaps are excellent.  Exterior equipment includes Euro-spec rear bumperettes, a driver-side and optional passenger-side mirror,

Interior

The front black leatherette seats feature their original velour pinstripe inserts and are manually adjustable.  The rear seats are covered in their original black leatherette.  The original three spoke steering wheel is installed, and a Kenwood stereo is mounted in the dash.  The stock VDO gauges are functioning properly.  A 150-mph speedometer was installed following the vehicle’s importation to the US.

Wheels and Brakes

The 16″ staggered-width Fuchs alloy wheels with black centers are mounted with tires measuring 205/55 and 225/50. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes.  Brake fluid was flushed in 2023.

The original 3.0-liter flat-six is paired with a 915 5-speed manual transaxle, and factory output for 1978 Euro models was rated at 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque when new. The original engine serial number 6382607 indicates the car as a RoW example.  A full engine rebuild was completed in 2004 (at 121k miles) and included new main and rod bearings, valves and guides, rings, head studs, engine seals, clutch and pressure plate and new spark plugs.  The important hydraulic chain tensioner and pop off valve updates are installed.

The original type 915/62 transmission is installed. The Euro specification transmissions had a slightly higher ratio 5th gear.

Documentation and Accessories

Included are an owner’s manual, service records from 2001 to 2022 including documentation for the full engine rebuild and full repaint, and a clean title.  Accessories include a partial toolkit, jack and spare wheel.
