37K-Mile 1983 Porsche 911SC Targa
This 1983 Porsche 911SC Targa was first sold by Gateway Porsche Audi in Portland, Oregon and later relocated to California. The first owner, busy with his business, placed the Porsche into storage in 1989 through 2004. It now shows just over 37k miles. It is finished in Slate Blue Metallic over black leather upholstery and is powered it’s original 3.0-liter flat-six engine paired with it’s original five-speed manual type 915 transaxle and optional limited-slip differential.
Equipment includes Bilstein shock absorbers, front sport seats, automatic heating control, cruise control, and a Bluetooth-capable Alpine stereo. Maintenance since 2017 included the installation of the Carrera-style chain tensioners, Bilstein front struts, and Turbo-specification tie rods, service of the air conditioning and fuel systems, and the replacement of the engine sound pad, valve adjustment, valve cover gaskets, tires, and ignition components. The documentation includes original window sticker, dealer request form, original purchase documents, service records dating to 1983, the pristine original tool roll, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title.
The factory sport seats and door panels inserts are trimmed in optional full Black leather (YA) with matching dashboard surfaces and carpets. Amenities include power windows, cruise control, air conditioning, and Alpine stereo. The air-conditioning system converted to R34 and recharged in 2017. The padded steering wheel is wrapped in leather and frames a centrally mounted tachometer, a 170-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The six-digit odometer shows just over 37k miles.
The original forged 16″ Fuchs wheels have black painted pockets and anodized lips with no curb rash. They are mounted with Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S tires measuring 205/55 up front and 225/50 out back. Work performed in 2017 included installation of Turbo tie rods, wheel alignment, new Bilstein shocks and struts, and brake fluid flush.
The 3.0-liter flat-six was factory rated at 172 horsepower and 189 lb-ft of torque, and a test drive video is provided below. Service in 2004 included all new head studs, engine reseal, and transmission reseal. Service since 2017 has included installation of Carrera chain tensioner update, valve adjustment, spark plugs, and mounts, along with the installation of an airbox pop-off valve and oil changes. Power is sent to the rear wheels through the original 915 five-speed manual transaxle that had its oil changed in 2017. Additional underside photos are presented in the gallery below, including photos of the original engine and original transmission numbers.
Included are the original owner’s manual and warranty service book, original window sticker, original purchase invoice, service records from 1983 to 2020, a clean CarFax and a clean California title. Accessories include the original toolkit, jack and spare wheel. A decode of the under-hood option sticker provides the following information:
